Following a staff meeting today, we have decided to pause our plans to move to card only payments for the foreseeable future. Cash will continue to be accepted alongside card payments while we explore other options.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share your views. We have listened carefully, and your feedback has played an important part in this decision.

Our original proposal was never about excluding anyone. As an independent charity, we have to balance accessibility with the practical realities of running a busy community venue.

The safety and security of our staff must always come first. Our team often works alone during late opening hours, and with the current security considerations in our local area, alongside the Banking Hub operating within our building, we have to think carefully about the risks associated with handling cash.

Managing cash also places additional pressure on our small team at a time when The Witham is busier than ever and we continue to operate with limited resources.

For now, we are pressing pause while we explore other ways to reduce these pressures without impacting accessibility.
