The Witham gallery provides a public space overlooking Barnard Castle high street in which to run exhibitions and workshops.
The Witham gallery is a really great space for an exhibition. It’s contemporary and bright, right on the main street, and easy to access. The staff and volunteers are always friendly and helpful. For me, exhibiting at the Witham is a wonderful way to bring my work to new audiences, and I find that they keep coming back time after time.

Our gallery is essentially a space for hire but we pride ourselves on nurturing strong exhibitions with local and regional artists and also on providing a space for heritage, local interest and craft displays.
In tandem with the gallery there are opportunities to sell and exhibit work in three different spaces of The Witham (Gallery, Shop , and the Café Bar area (sometimes called The Dispensary Gallery

Hire cost of the gallery
Our four-week hire rate for the gallery is £260 + VAT for professional exhibitors, or exhibitor groups when the Witham’s commission rate is applied. This rate includes an optional preview event, use of wine glasses and a washing-up service. Drinks will be provided by the exhibitor.
The four-week hire rate for the gallery is £420 + VAT for professional exhibitors, or exhibitor groups with a no-commission arrangement. This rate includes a preview event for which the Witham will provide glasses and a washing-up service. Drinks will be provided by the exhibitor.
The four-week hire rate for community groups (amateur exhibitors) is £125 + VAT if the dates are determined by The Witham. The rate increases to £150 + VAT if the dates are determined by the exhibitor. Please note if selling artwork, you are not classed as amateur.
The four-week hire rate for the Dispensary Gallery and the café display space is £80 + VAT for any exhibitor. The Witham’s commission rate is applied to any sales.
A 20% deposit is required to secure the booking upon return of the hire agreement.
