Over the past year, Denis Harry Fox, has given many talks throughout Northern England to U3A groups, various societies, community centres, colleges and the armed forces. Born in Seaham in 1944, Denis now lives in Durham City and studied at Durham University and Newcastle University. He retired from teaching art at Emmanuel College in Gateshead in 2011.
Four years ago, Denis developed a series of paintings connected with a famous air battle that took place over the North-East coast.
Air Chief Marshal of the RAF Sir Stephen John Hillier and Air Chief Marshal of the RAF Sir Michael Wigston have both admired the aviation work of Denis Harry Fox and have added their signatures to prints taken from his paintings.
Exhibitions have been held in Bamburgh Castle, Hexham Abbey, Durham Cathedral, Ripon Cathedral, Beverley Minster, Kirkleatham Museum, Northallerton Town Hall, Durham City Town Hall, Bishop Auckland Town Hall and St. Mary’s Heritage Centre on Gateshead Quays.
A great many people from home and abroad have seen his work.
Denis talks about the eight RAF squadrons that took part in the victory over the Luftwaffe on 15th August 1940. He also includes the role women took in helping to defeat the enemy.
Join Denis for this informative, humorous at times but above all very emotional talk.
