Payment Methods
From Monday 1 September 2026, The Witham will become a cashless venue.
This means we will no longer accept cash payments anywhere in the building, including:
- Henry’s Bar
- The Dispensary Café
- Box Office
Payments can be made using debit cards, credit cards, contactless payment, Apple Pay, Google Pay and other digital payment methods.
Why are you making this change?
This decision has not been taken lightly.
Following advice from our insurers, moving to a cashless operation helps reduce the risks associated with handling and storing cash. Therefore, it also improves safety for our staff and volunteers as cash can be a security risk for venues and helps streamline day-to-day operations, allowing us to focus more on delivering great experiences for our visitors. Plus, cash fees are now more expensive than card fees.
Many venues across the UK have already made the move to cashless for similar reasons.
We know this may affect some visitors
We understand that not everyone uses card payments regularly and appreciate this may be a significant change for some people. That is why we are trying to give as much notice as possoble and support our customers

Sibstar is a UK debit card and companion app designed to help people who may be vulnerable to manage their everyday spending more safely while maintaining independence. It was originally created to support people living with dementia, but it is also used by people with learning disabilities, those in recovery from addiction, people with mental health conditions. Will you accept cash after 1 September?
No. From 1 September we will only accept card and contactless payments.

Can I still book tickets online?
Yes. Nothing changes for online bookings.
I only use cash. What can I do?
If you currently only use cash, there are a range of options available including Sibstar debit cards, basic bank accounts and pre-paid payment cards. If you’d like more information, please speak to a member of staff and we’ll be happy to point you towards organisations who can help.
Why can’t you make exceptions?
To ensure the policy is applied fairly and consistently for everyone, we won’t be able to accept cash payments after 1 September.
Will donations still be possible?
Absolutely. Donations can still be made with cash in our donation boxes or by card or contactless payment.
