Seek Not Hide – Pride Exhibition
Seek Not Hide is an interactive installation and art trail by Disabled sculptor and Drag King Lady Kitt, working with YMCA, Teesdale’s Cockfield Youth Club.
The trail has been commissioned by Northern Heartlands as part of Pride in Teesdale, to help people explore how they can feel welcome, included and proud of who they are and where they live.
What do you wish people understood about you without you having to explain?
How can we be proud of things about us which are invisible, hidden or hard to see?
We invite you to:
· Collect an art trail guide from the café
· Find the mythical creatures hidden around the garden and building
· Draw or write about your own mythical creature which has the power to help people understand each other.
You can also take part in the FREE drop-in workshops Saturday 25 January and Saturday 1 February 11am to 3pm. Join Disabled sculptor and Drag King Lady Kitt, for FREE drop-in crafting sessions. Kitt will invite you to make things while you think and chat about what it means to be proud of our community and how we can create welcoming, safe and comfortable spaces for everyone. Everyone welcome!
“As I started to create “Seek Not Hide”, I wondered how I could create artwork and activities which might help people to start conversations about the invisible, hidden or hard to see aspects of our lives. I think we can all help each other to feel comfortable about, and proud of, who we are. I feel we can do this by looking for, seeking and finding ways to be welcoming and generous. I think it’s particularly important to do this for people who have lives, experiences and cultures that are different to our own. I would like to live in a world where LGBTQIA+ people do not feel the need to hide aspects of their identities and where people do not assume that others are straight* and cisgendered*.” Lady Kitt, 2025.
