Join Disabled sculptor and Drag King Lady Kitt, for FREE drop-in crafting sessions linked to Exhibition – Seek Not Hide. Kitt will invite you to make things while you think and chat about what it means to be proud of our community and how we can create welcoming, safe and comfortable spaces for everyone. Everyone welcome!
This project has been commissioned as part of Pride in Teesdale, a programme of arts activity and events bringing communities together to celebrate LGBTQIA+ culture. Pride in Teesdale is an ongoing partnership led by YMCA Teesdale and includes Curious Arts, Northern Heartlands, TCR Hub, The Bowes Museum and The Witham.
“As I started to create “Seek Not Hide”, I wondered how I could create artwork and activities which might help people to start conversations about the invisible, hidden or hard to see aspects of our lives. I think we can all help each other to feel comfortable about, and proud of, who we are. I feel we can do this by looking for, seeking and finding ways to be welcoming and generous. I think it’s particularly important to do this for people who have lives, experiences and cultures that are different to our own. I would like to live in a world where LGBTQIA+ people do not feel the need to hide aspects of their identities and where people do not assume that others are straight* and cisgendered*.” Lady Kitt, 2025.
