Turrets Youth Theatre Term Fee – Autumn 2020
Established in 1997, Turrets is the in-house youth theatre company of The Witham community arts centre, providing access to drama-based workshops, activities and performances in Barnard Castle and the surrounding area.
Working with children from the age of 7+, Turrets is committed to delivering unique performance opportunities, providing formative creative experiences for over 20 years for hundreds of young people across the region. With many alumni now pursuing careers in theatre and the wider arts, we pride ourselves on being a launch pad for creativity; providing a safe and supportive environment in which to build confidence, experience and attitude!
Through devised and scripted work, both groups develop imaginative and original performances, equipping members with invaluable experiences both on and off stage, and helps to bridge the gaps between primary and secondary school, when support and familiarity are invaluable.
Juniors (4 pm – 5:30 pm)
Open to ages 7 – 11 years, The Juniors act as an introduction to all things theatre and provides a nurturing and safe environment in which to explore the world. Our weekly workshops are full of fun and games, building confidence and trust amongst the group – core skills in life as well as on the stage.
Seniors (5.45pm – 7.15 pm)
Open to ages 12+ years, The Senior group develop key acting skills based around improvisation and drama games. The group explore different methods and techniques with guest facilitators and masterclasses, as well as through focussed rehearsals and productions.
Workshops Restarting Wednesday 7th October
Date: Wednesdays during term time
Time: Juniors 4 pm – 5:30 pm / Seniors 5.45 pm – 7.15 pm
Returning to the workshop space after lockdown, Turrets Autumn Term will look and feel a little different to before, but the team and The Witham are doing everything we can to ensure a COVID-19 safe, socially spaced and fun environment to work in.
The Junior group will be creating a script through improvisation and creative writing activities. Weaving together work from our lockdown Zoom sessions, and new ideas and inspiration to create an awesome adventure into magical worlds, with a hope to stage a performance in the Spring Term.
The Senior group will build on their fantastic contributions towards The Coronavirus Time Capsule; teasing apart the issues that young people face today, in the hope of building a better future together. With expert guidance from our Turrets Mentor, the group will work together to devise a new performance for the Spring Term.
New members are always welcome.
Price: £50 per child (Oct – Dec 2020)
