On 15th July, our town’s response to the visit by Dominic Cummings was featured on BBC Radio 4’s You and Yours. The programme overview describes the feature as ‘The extra boost Barnard Castle didn’t see coming. Why an infamous car trip may have helped out traders.” You’ll hear local people such as David Harper and our town mayor being interviewed. Follow this link to find the programme.
If you don’t want to listen to the whole show, the section about Barnard Castle starts at 16’52 and finishes at 22’39”. In case you’re not familiar with how BBC Sounds allows you to play back previously broadcast programmes, here is the guide the BBC sent to us so that we could direct you to the right moment.
The programme also talked to young apprentices about how lockdown had affected them and what they think it means for their future careers. That’s on a similar theme to the work being done by The Witham’s Youth Theatre: Turrets. If you’d like to see some of the artistic work that the young performers have been producing during the lockdown period, you can find their performances here:
From this summer onwards, the management of Turrets has moved from being associated with The Witham, to being run by The Witham. Two trustees – Lynda Winstanley, formerly Director of The Hippodrome in Darlington, and Jill Cole, Director of Northern Heartlands will be working with Susan Coffer to support the development of the youth theatre. The Arts Council has already given The Witham one of their small grants for this very purpose.
