The Witham nurtures audiences’ interests, challenges expectations and encourages continued attendance whilst inspiring deeper engagement and critical thinking. We’re dedicated to building audiences - both attracting new people whilst encouraging those who already attend to explore something different.
On Barnard Castle high street, The Witham is accessible for our rural audience who live in isolation from the rich cultural tapestry of urban dwellers. We strive to overcome barriers, reaching out to those less engaged, those further away, those who struggle to access the arts, on a personal, project & policy level.
Being a multi-art form venue, we create opportunities to attract a diverse range of people, reaching out with creative engagement strategies. We use data to work smarter with a dynamic Audience Development strategy and projects targeting areas of growth.
Volunteers are an integral part of The Witham, a strong example of how we work with people to increase the impact of the arts. An essential delivery team to realise ambitious projects, our volunteers are our ambassadors, whilst they benefit being part of our dynamic arts centre.
We embrace our important role in the financial sustainability of our town & surrounding area & aim to be a vital part of regional regeneration, through policy making, planning and programming.
